    Babbs mill lake

Please say a prayer for the four kids pulled from Babbs mill lake, after falling through the ice. They all suffered cardiac arrest. There could be two others. It’s been a sad few days for accidents.

Sadly, always happens when bodies of water freeze over. It’s too tempting for kids who have no fear for the possibilities. I remember getting on to the ice on the canal at Leasowes, Halesowen; felt and heard it crack and just managed to get off! I really hope those kids make it

    It’s a really horrible story.

I just can’t get my head around anyone who goes onto frozen water in this country though.

Ice has always scared me, I’ve never even chanced a frozen lake or canal etc.

I fear we’re looking at multiple fatalities here.

Just been reported 3 children aged 8. 10. And 11 have sadly died RIP little ones.
A 6 year old remains in critical condition in hospital I’m praying he pulls through.

How dreadfully sad! I just can't imagine how the parents are coping with this tragedy. Do they know yet if there were any more youngsters involved?

Just watched the lunch time news and apparently no other children have been reported missing so that's a good sign.

What a tragedy and waste of life.

So often we hear of serious illness in children which in itself is awful, but when life is inadvertently wasted like this it’s so terribly sad.

    RIP little ones.

I can't begin to imagine how their parents feel this close to Christmas. They have probably bought the presents for them. They will never celebrate Christmas again.

100 years ago two boys were drowned after falling through ice in Shaw Road Dudley. A passing sailor also drowned while attempting to rescue them. The graves of the boys are near the railings of Top Church.
Eerily two more boys drowned in Wolverhampton the same year or thereabouts and a passing sailor also drowned attempting the rescue.
We all tell our kids not to do anything dangerous, but did we ever listen to our elders when young?

My parents would have drummed it into me upon pain of a beating and a curfew about not going anywhere near a lake be it frozen or normal. Did I obey their orders? Most times yes but did I sometimes chance getting found out, yes. It only takes one kid to risk something like going on the ice and the others will follow just to fit in and not look a wuss. 99 times out of a hundred everyone goes home ok but then there is that one exception and then tragedy.
