Queens Park Rangers - Unhealthy End of Year Accounts 31 May 2022

Queens Park Rangers released the end of year club accounts, for year ending 31st May 2022.

The championship club accounts show a unhealthy balance sheet.

The club spent £124 on wages for every £100 of the clubs income in the year ending
31st May 2022, which meant the owners writing off the losses.

The club owes nearly £90m to various parties -
Nearly £6m to EFL for covid loans
£10.2m on FFP settlements ......... [ FFP is Financial Fair Play settlements ]
    £68m in loans
    £2.1m on player transfer instalments

The club spent £2.8m on players, with a sales income of £250,000, plus spending
£8.5m on a new training ground.
The club spent spent £20m more than it generated in the season 2021-22, funded by
    borrowing from the owners.
    The club lost £474,000 a week pre-tax in 2021-22.
The total losses over the years amounts to £332m, covered by combination of shares
    issued to owners & loans.

QPR did not spend any money on players in the last 2 transfer windows.

But did sign free agent forward Chris Martin, end-of-season-contract.

The club have a new investor Richard Reilly, who now owns 12% of the club.

Perhaps not good reading for new manager Gareth Ainsworth.

So another club well over spending but no action will be taken.

I propose that the FA/EFL start to look to set up a system where they deduct points from any club, season ending, that overspends on player purchase/wages against incoming income.

This would soon make a dramatic effect/change and make those that break the rules but, always seem to get away with it, think twice about doing so.

At the moment the EFL will not do anything to stop this unacceptable practice, bear in mind the rules are made by the Chairman, but the EFL have the tools and won't use them.

However, there is a very bright light at the end of the tunnel. The recent announcement that Regulation is to be introduced in to our game following Tracey Crouch's excellent 'Fan Led Review' will sort all these practice's out. It is going to take time before the Regulator is up and running, but it is excellent news for all clubs like are own that are run on a sensible and ethical basis.

Brin, Queens Park Rangers were punished for over spending -

QPR agreed a settlement of nearly £42m with the English Football League [EFL] to end a
Financial Fair Play [FFP] dispute, on the 27th July 2018.

The £10.2m owed I mentioned must be what is still owed to the Financial Fair Play [FFP]
agreement, which the championship club agreed to pay, so they will have paid £31.8m from
    the agreement in 2018.

And where/ who did all that money go to? If it’s been paid back?

Thanks for that BridKid and welcome to the board, and here is the link for anyone who wants to have a look at the Tracey Crouch 'Fan Led Review'

The only punishment that works is points deductions, and not 6 or 8, but a minimum of 16.
Then smaller, well run clubs like ours have a chance of competing.

I agree TLC, but not only for our club but for every club, to force them to stop spending money they can't afford to spend. UTM

Well buddy, if it’s the poor customary-6 points it will leave them just a point above us. I think they should treat it like administration as it’s clearly administrative and for the second time like you say and dock them -17 points and see if that teaches them a lesson!
