Was working last night so only caught the first 20 minutes or so of the game at which point we were seemingly bossing it and our first goal inevitable. To find out the result later and the collapse of the team in face of a rejuvinated Hull was rather a bitter disappointment -but one we get served too often and one that will cost us possible promotion.
Tbh, we all seem to keep going over the same ground. We all know, in terms of quality, we are a mid Championship team. We all know that under Bruce's mis-management they all massively under-performed, just as under Carlos they began to over perform. Most importantly, we all know that our problems will only really be solved if we can get rid of Lai and attract a new owner who is prepared to invest in the team.
We do have some players -Wallace, Yokuslu, BTA, Molumby- who can pretty consistently compete (even if they lack premiership quality) and several more who can perform 'on their day'. But this isn't good enough. One of the first things Corberan said when he got here was that we need to compete to win and he started to get them to do this. This pleased fans, not only because of the results, but because one thing guaranteed to p iss us all off is players not putting in a shift. Whilst we have way too many players like Zahore and Livermore that need shifting out, we also have too many that lack consistency who can perform but can equally have poor games. Having "average" players means that they have to play well as a team and fight to get results. And they have to do this consistently. Corberan started to get them to do this but ultimately quality (or lack of) will out. Premiership players need to possess both ability and consistency in attitude and competitiveness.
Tbh, as stated on a previous thread, if we did by some miracle gain promotion my concern would be that we would still not attract a new owner, Lai would trouser most of the financial rewards rather than invest in the team and we would all be in for a miserable time watching us being out played and losing most games. Then again, any dream of remaining in the Championship and being able to rebuild with Corberan at the helm seems equally remote as long as Lai is in charge. It could be so much different...
