I haven't watched MOTD for about 10 years, so I'll boycott it. But I can understand the BBC stance as it's akin to having an employee bringing them into disrepute as he is a BBC mouth regardless of making the comments on a personal social media. When you are paid the vast salary that GL is, then he has to be judicious or neutral in his comments as I'm sure he has clauses in his contract to suggest he think first, speaks later.

He has the right to express his own opinion, but if that opinion conflicts with his contract (and I've no idea if it does, but most public figures have some sort of gag/restraint) then he does so at his own risk

You're thinking too much about BBC only RA.
Clarkson for example was hounded out by Markels complaints, for his remark about a game of thrones scene for her.

As for my eveidence, have a look at contracts about bringing a service into disrepute and causing harm/embarressment to that service.
I deinitely had that very clause in my contract whilst seconded to to an HMP

If I paid someone £1.25 m a year who kept breeching COD of said company, then I'd react as well.
