    Stadium Capacity Increase

As strange as it seems to say, we are a bigger club now then when we were in the top flight. The attendances in the last few seasons (at this level) prove this point.

We get much bigger crowds now (especially when considering home fans tickets sold) than we did during the season we nearly got in the league 1 playoffs, last decade.

So it stands to reason if we was doing well in league 1 now, we would be getting sell outs most games. If we got to the championship, then we definitely would.

If we got to this point and (unbelievably) needed to increase stadium capacity, how would you suggest we do it?

My suggestion would be to widen the back of the JS stand and gain the extra room to legally be able to use its whole capacity again. That would be a quick fix.. but what about long-term?

Where / how would you increase capacity of the ground?

The easy answer is you would extend the family stand and fill in the corners.

let's hope we are asking this seriously in a few years time

There were plans at one time for the Cattle Market Road to go straight through the market itself, and for County Road to become a paved area? That would make it easy to extend the JS. But yeah, fill in the corners is the easy solution, but in all honesty, I don't think we need to be worrying about that just yet.

I don't know the exact figures but when the stadium was built was the capacity not 20,300? But it's had to be reduced to 18,816?

So the first job would be is how to we get these 1,484 seats back? What work would need to be done and would the investment be worth it?

I'd imagine the easiest way to increase the capacity by other means is to fill in the corners between the DP and Kop and the DP and the family stand and it would nicely stich all three sides of home supporters together.

It would keep the JS completely separate for away fans only until such time attendances grew where it has to be opened up partly for home supporters as is the case for Sunday's game.

For the capacity to be increased at all, the club would have to look into increasing the size of the concourses in each stand, as I believe that's why the capacity has now been decreased from its original number.

Only way we'd get a larger capacity is by moving away from meadow lane. As soon as we broached the subject, the council would push for it to aid the redevelopment of the area. Personally, if we get a stadium built that we own and have money to spare for the team, I'd be all for it, it's not like the redevelopment of meadow lane has been a happy place

Good point, filling in the corners and having a seperate entrance/exit for them might negate that somewhat?

You can’t fill in the corners without replacing the floodlights. They are serviced by folding on to the pitch.

Also, we are a very long way off filling the ground regularly.

Should it ever be necessary, (unlikely in most of our life times) moving elsewhere would surely be the answer. Probably out towards Clifton/A453.
