    Wigan Athletic Post Match Thoughts

It would have been nice to go out with a bang rather than a whimper but in the end some tired legs and tired heads as the end of what has been a very trying season. However, let's not forget we made it to 50 points, achieved our highest league position in the NYS era and for those that were seemingly obsessed with it, we stayed up 'on merit'. Much work to do between now and the start of next season but enjoy your summer holidays. Must mention Sunderland who came up below us and Wigan last season but have put in a performance today/this season that we can only dream of.

    Thoughts?

Over the moon with 50 points but we need a clear-out this summer. Definitely Quina/Fosu need to be replaced, not just on today's performance but across the time they've been here. Seen better players in the national league play offs compared to that pair. Still not sold on Hugill either tbh. Proud of the lads onwards to next season. UTM

Looked ok 1st half then played half asleep in the 2nd, i'm surprised Wigan didn't nick it. Quina looks lightweight for this league but he's a good player, like Fosu, who you bring on when you're winning 4-0.........not for us.

Season over now, and a better finish that we wanted, but didn't expect................UTM

Enjoyed the ride, now get ready for the next one. Happy summer to all...........

50 points and stayed up on merit - surpassed the bookies expectations with the disruption of management/backroom staff upheaval and many key injuries. The rumour mill will kick in to keep us amused and bemused, starting with a retained list at some point. Have a good summer all, whatever your plans are

Don't often agree with Grist, but happy to do so on this occasion.

A decent end to a great season. No point discussing the game in depth because that team will never play again.I suspect a new era begins in August. The saddest part of the day is the farewell to Richard Wood.Signed by Steve Evans believe it or not, frozen out to Crawley and came back to become a club legend.

We got a point, kept another cleansheet and really should have gone in front in the first half. Wigan changed the tactics with the two quick young lads and were unlucky not to pinch it. Fosu, why oh why doesn't taylor ever sub him, in the last 20 minutes we were playing with 10 men, he lost the ball time and time again, I hope he doesnt think that is the type of player we need next season. The lads looked very tired so a good point and a great season. Most of the January loan players haven't been very good, leo is young and looks the best of a bad bunch, Quina and Fosu very poor. 19th in the league on 50 points and points deduction didn't keep us up either we finished 19th on merit. A lot of work to do, but we have an outstanding keeper, a talented CB in Humphreys, a left back that gets better, at least 4 decent midfielders that is a good start.
Enjoy the footy on the TV and it is nice to relax, well done to MT and the players

And MK Dons who finished a point behind us in third place, now relegated to League 2.

    What went wrong there?
