Thread: Should I stay of should I go

Should I stay of should I go

If we drop down either because they will or they should

    Meslier - stay
    Robles - Stay
    Rasmus - go
    Firpo - go
    Ayling - stay
    Koch - Go
    Cooper - go
    Llorente - go
    Cresswell - stay
    Wober - stay
    Struijk - stay
    Drameh - stay
    Hjelde - stay
    Shackleton - Stay
    Adams - go
    Aaronson - go
    Foreshaw - go
    Gyabi - stay
    Bate - stay
    Poveda - stay
    Roberts - go
    Sinisterra - go
    Harrison - go
    James - stay
    Costa - go
    Gnonto - stay
    Gray - stay
    Bambi - go
    Rodrigo - go
    Matteo Joseph - stay
    Joffy - stay
    Perkins - stay
    Bogusz - go

Basis of a decent squad even with mass departures and with 3 or 4 experienced additions should be able to give the EFL a good crack.

Ok, so a bit hard to determine what you're saying there (the "will or they should" statement).

So here's my take on that list

Meslier – stay – Will leave
Robles – Stay – Might leave (depends on the way the last here games pan out and his performance)
Rasmus – go – Will leave
Firpo – go – Will leave
Ayling – stay – Will stay (Not attractive to any other Championship side and wouldn’t want to drop to League 1)
Koch – Go – Will leave
Cooper – go – Will stay (Ditto Ayling)
Llorente – go – Will leave
Cresswell – stay – Will leave
Wober – stay – Will leave
Struijk – stay – Will leave
Drameh – stay – Will leave
Hjelde – stay – Will leave
Shackleton – Stay – Will leave
Adams – go – Will leave
Aaronson – go _ Will leave
Foreshaw – go – Will stay (Ditto Ayling))
Gyabi – stay – Will leave
Bate – stay – Will leave
Poveda – stay – Will leave
Roberts – go – Will leave
Sinisterra – go – Will leave
Harrison – go – Will leave
James – stay – Will leave
Costa – go – Will leave
Gnonto – stay – Will leave
Gray – stay – Will leave
Bambi – go – Will stay (despite what I said in another post, but only because he will be another “Ayling”)
Rodrigo – go – Will leave
    Matteo Joseph – stay (Who?)
Joffy – stay – Will leave
Perkins – stay – Will leave
Bogusz – go – On his way already

The "Will leave" category is a mix of those who want away (Meslier, Harrison, Gelhardt, Perkins, Cresswell, Gyabi, Gray Poveda, etc), those the club will want to dispose of (Llorente, Aaronsson, Firpo, Roberts, Costa), and a few who could fall into either camp, but will not be here next season (IMHO), (Kristensen, Koch, Struijk).

    There are a couple you haven't mentioned;

Rutter - Not sure why we would keep him, but equally unsure as to who would want him (another example of our dear departed DoFs skill at talent finding)
McKennie - I presume he will go back from whence he came?

And no, I'm not trying to be overly pessimistic, but frankly I can't see any of those I'm suggesting who will want to leave being persuaded to stay (on a 50% wage cut, as rumoured), and the club won't want to keep some of the dross that was acquired over the last two windows (and won't have the revenues to do so, despite parachute payments).

Blimey, not disagreeing with much of that, but it doesn't leave a lot, maybe enough to enter a 5 a side competition.

Not much between us Oz, I think you have 5 staying, I have four.

Oh and I also noticed that Roca wasn't mentioned in HOs list, he would be another "disposal".

I don't think it is as much of case of stay/go as who will definitely leave, who might leave and who will most likely stay. In that terms you have:

    Almost certainly going:
Meslier, Koch, Llorente, Adams, Poveda, Harrison, James, Costa, Gnonto, Bogusz (he already left), Roca, Mckennie

    Could stay/Could Go:
Firpo (probably will, just depends who comes in for him)
Wober (Too good for Champ, but only just arrived, it is possible he would just not be allowed to leave)
Struijk (Form has fallen off a cliff so unsure anyone would buy him but the potential is there)
Forshaw (Injuries, we'd be stupid to offer him another contract, I like him but he's barely played in 4 years)
Aaronson (Just joined, don't see a move for him given his form)
Roberts (Who knows, isn't good enough)
Bamford (Injured all the time, can't see a PL team taking him given the risk of his biscuit legs crumbling again)
Rodrigo (I hold a shred of hope he'd stay to fix it, but see him back in Spain to be honest)
Summerville (not convinced he's ready for a PL move, might have to stay)
Rutter (Literally just joined and barely played, can't see him leaving so quick)

    Very likely to stay:
    Robles
    Ayling
    Cooper
    Cresswell
Rasmus (Who would even buy him)
    Drameh
    Hjelde
    Shackleton
    Gyabi
    Bate
Sinisterra (Injured, wouldn't be fit to do any medical before transfer window closes)
    Gray
    Joseph
    Gelhardt
    Perkins
    Klaesson
    Dallas
    Greenwood

Reality is you can't just let your entire squad or players in a position leave so some will just have to stay, we have a lot of good young kids coming through so if we could keep one or two of our better players like Wober and Rodrigo + the experience with Cooper, Ayling, Dallas and then add 2/3 proven good players at that level we'd have a good chance of promotion again.

I stand by what I said regarding the majority of the young players you name not being with us for long.

I'm not sure you can make a statement like "....you can't just let your entire squad or players in a position leave so some will just have to stay.....", and carry the consequences through?.

Fact/reality is that a great many of those you named have been loaned out at times when the club could realistically have used them instead of introducing the dross that was swept up last summer. They know that. In addition, most of those falling into that category have done well, and have sparked interest not only from the club they were loaned to, but further afield (including up the league ladder). Shackletons agent is on record as saying he believes that it would benefit him (Shackleton (and his agent, naturally) to move away from Leeds, others are likely to be feeling the same, given their treatment (and past behaviour, like Drameh).

Of course the club doesn't HAVE to sell, but are we really entertaining the possibility that we field players who have had their heads turned, know there are opportunities that LUFC hasn't given them, and expect to get stellar performances from them (and for those who have been with the 1st team, like Rodrigo, having taken a minimum 50% salary cut to boot). Not exactly "motivational"?

Shame it wasn't like the "good old days" when the manager chose which players HE wanted, rather than a sporting director who drags a load of rubbish in and says there you go coach them. My local side Norwich have a situation we had with Mr orta, a guy called Stuart webber who has bought poorly for 2 seasons, the fans want him out as much as we wanted orta out, hence Norwich are now where they are, mid table. I'm not sure who coaches our players, who's scouts them, and I dread to think what we'll start with come August time.

Would think the likes of Archie Gray would stay. If relegated he will be in first team squad, which is likely more money than he’s on now. Similar situ with most the young loanees coming back with more experience that we want to keep.
