At least the emergence of assists shines some light on the creative players in the game, but will the aforementioned players will only get credited if the strikers they are playing with, put the ball in the onion bag. So maybe they don't tell the whole story.

Agree with this general sentiment. This thread is an interesting question by someone who doesn't put much stock in stats and could've been an equally interesting debate, and it's devolved into the usual abject inanity and bickering.

If said bickering was in any way witty or even funny I could almost enjoy it, but it's neither.
