    Diaby

Linked with a £35 million move to Villa.

Bit of a come down from the £70 million we were quoted.

Wonder if we will go back in now that he seems to be for sale.

READ THIS: Newcastle United seriously need to worry about Aston Villa this season.

Unai Emery has transformed them, and his efforts last season mean Villa will be playing in the Europa Conference League. They also completely battered Newcastle, which did not happen often.

Now they are making a splash in the transfer market, having completed deals for Youri Tielemans and Pau Torres. They are also trying to sign Moussa Diaby, who is a long-term target for the Magpies.

Emery’s side could become a real force this upcoming season, and they will be even more dangerous if they secure a deal for their latest summer target.

According to the Daily Mail, Villa are trying to sign Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest. The report states that the two clubs have held talks and that £40million might be enough to sign the Wales international.

The Daily Mail add that Johnson is keen to swap the City Ground for Villa Park, which is no surprise given it would allow him to play European football for the first time in his career.

Johnson was excellent last season during his Premier League debut, scoring eight times as Steve Cooper’s side avoided relegation.

The 22-year-old showed real signs of promise, and it could now earn him a move to Aston Villa. That would delight Emery, who is no doubt keen for his team to improve even more during what will be his first full campaign with the club.

Getting Johnson could be a great bit of business, and it is perhaps a deal that could attract envious looks from Tyneside.

Wouldnt touch Johnson way to inconsistent as for Diaby they are still according to reports demanding 61m for him, maybe Johnson is their back up in case Diaby moves elsewhere.

Paul Torres is a great signing. Youri Tielemans not so much. Good player but signed for them out of convenience. He doesn't have to move house and kids can stay know school.

If we want Diaby, with our long term interest and negotiation with Leverkusen we'll get him. If we don't then we are not prioritising him.

We didn't bid for Maddison at all. Of we had he would be a Newcastle player.

We didn't bid for Szoboszlai when his agent made it clear he preferred to work with Klopp - German speaker and all he prefers to play Europe league and compete for top 4 next season.

    Good for him!

Diaby will be a Newcastle player if we want him.

Barnes will be next through the door by the look of things then we will see if it's diaby or Ciesa or an as yet unknown.

    Exciting times.

Villa will be strong next season. They will not be just for us to worry about. The whole league including the b!Tch 6 especially the most cowardly in spur should be very worried.

    We'll be fine

Summed up very well Ragatino. Why they would think VILLA is a threat to us, but not the other six turds begs belief!
I'm hoping we now snare DIABY as well as AXEL DIASI and HARVEY BARNES - after that a few more depth players for the squad.

Hello Toon Fans, yes we have had an opening bid of 45M euros turned down, ithink 50 will do it as according to the German press, he's stated he wants to come to Villa. We will see but one thing that is warming my heart is Hearing Sky and Prem fans say they are worried about Newcastle and Villa, it's about time. Ps cannot see us getting both players, we'll have one each! UTV

Why are no other ‘top’ clubs in for Diaby? The probable answer because his cost/benefit isn’t as positive as other available players. For those clubs that are required to follow FFP rules, they have to be extremely careful about making big signings. Player attitude must be right and he must fit into the team plan. Gone are the days when clubs like Newcastle would definitely sign Messi, Mbape, etc, if they could.

I think they are looking for us to breach ffp to make an example of us.
