Extremists will always thrive where there is oppression and a sense of injustice, even when there's a chance of peace some are so consumed by their own beliefs their minds are closed to any compromise or conciliation so their violence continues. After thousands of years fighting in the pursuit of power, as sentient beings we haven't learned how to get along.
