It's not only price but publicity. But price is an issue. If there are 6,000 people paying just £1 that's £6,000 lost so clearly £10 is £60,000 - that won't be covered by the prize money. So let's say £15 admission which would mean 4000 extra people needed to break even.
Do you think that is achievable?
I realise this is fagpacket maths but the general point would still stand even with more accurate calculations.

Yes there are many different ways of looking at it. I see it as an opportunity to really put the club in the spotlight in a really positive manner with some over the top marketing. Also you could argue that any revenue is income that hasn't been budgeted for.

Don't forget the rules of the competition constrain what you can do on pricing - as gate receipts are split after costs it's not just the home club's income that's affected & there is a minimum you can charge for each round, Derby's price on Tuesday was probably it. Not sure if it rises for 2nd Round.

The price issue has cropped up many times. First of all, the price has to be agreed with both clubs. In the first round Derby wouldn't budge from £20. Secondly, Gazan is right, whatever you reduce the price by will never be made up by extra attendance. Its a nice thought, but has been tried before many times. It simply doesn't work I'm afraid

You're correct, the income hasn't been budgetted for, but it needs to be maximised. Think of it as funds towards keeping Mickey here a bit longer!!

It's not just about getting bums on seats it is about making the most money and the only way to achieve that is to get through the first couple of rounds and then get a draw that will be put on TV again, away at a non-league club might do it. The prize funds are decent winning the first round gives us £40k with £25K from the TV appearance, together with a few thousand from gate receipts. Thats not near enough to make much of a difference to our budget. The prize money will go up as will the TV revenues the further we go in the competition, a win against Bristol Rovers could be a bit of a money spinner, we will have to see if we can get another league 1 scalp and a decent draw, thats the difference between £75k and £175k.

Hopefully, we can manage Bristol Rovers and then, finally get an 'easier' draw and get us through to the 4th round. For one thing, that'll be a landmark in itself (when did we last reach the 4th round?); secondly the prize money will start getting interesting and 3rd we might actually get on telly again (the fee for which will be much more interesting than the sum received for the Derby match).
Of course we might just lose against Bristol R.
