Everton just been deducted 10 points. I just heard the tail end of the news on radio L.B.C. and can only presume it is for irregularities in the transfer market.

It's going to be a long hard season for the Muckem bindippers.

They wouldn't if it had been last season. They would have finished on 26 points, on second bottom one place above Southampton.

I don't see what they can appeal about. The rules were set and they broke them.

Newcastle's FFP caution vindicated with Everton hit by points deduction after hearing
Everton have dropped into the relegation zone after an independent commission hearing into FFP breaches punished the Toffees with a 10-point deduction.

Everton have been punished with an immediate 10-point deduction after being found guilty of breaching Financial Fair Play. Sean Dyche's side now sit joint bottom of the Premier League on four points, although the Toffees are expected to appeal against the decision.

The punishment was announced on Friday following an independent commission hearing into the alleged breach of the division's profit and sustainability rules. Everton had posted losses of nearly £372 million over a three-year period, £250m more than is permitted under the Premier League's financial rules.

Both parties are able to lodge an appeal against the verdict. Everton have condemned the decision in a statement, labelling it 'unjust' and not a 'reasonable reflection of the evidence submitted'

The statement reads: "Everton Football Club is both shocked and disappointed by the ruling of the Premier League’s Commission. The Club believes that the Commission has imposed a wholly disproportionate and unjust sporting sanction.

"The Club has already communicated its intention to appeal the decision to the Premier League. The appeal process will now commence and the Club’s case will be heard by an Appeal Board appointed pursuant to the Premier League’s rules in due course.

"Everton maintains that it has been open and transparent in the information it has provided to the Premier League and that it has always respected the integrity of the process. The Club does not recognise the finding that it failed to act with the utmost good faith and it does not understand this to have been an allegation made by the Premier League during the course of proceedings.

"Both the harshness and severity of the sanction imposed by the Commission are neither a fair nor a reasonable reflection of the evidence submitted. The Club will also monitor with great interest the decisions made in any other cases concerning the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules. Everton cannot comment on this matter any further until the appeal process has concluded."

FFP has proven to be a constant source of concern around Newcastle United since the takeover. Eddie Howe and sporting director Dan Ashworth have both stressed the Magpies' spending in recent transfer windows will not be sustainable over the coming seasons.

Speaking in October last year, Ashworth told reporters: "This club has invested circa £200million in 2022 — that's unsustainable. You can't keep doing that every year. No matter how rich your owners are, you are restrained by the fact that you have to work within FFP."

Howe stressed a similar point when he was recently pressed on the prospect of signing a third striker, with Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson both sidelined through injury. The head coach told reporters last month: “The trouble is, you’re sort of alluding to signing a third striker. We just didn’t have the resources to do that.

“You can only go with the information you have at the time. As much as you can have a crystal ball and try to predict what will happen, that is part of our job as well, you only have a certain amount of resources and you have to make the decisions you’re faced with at the time.”
