Died after a long illness, age 80. One of my highlights of watching England play was our 4-1 defeat of the Netherlands in the 1996 Euros, when he was the England manager. (Winning the World Cup and Sven's team beating Germany 5-1 are two others. I'm struggling to remember any more!). Terry Venables was the co-creator of Hazell, a cockney private detective, that ran for two series on TV in the late 1970s. RIP Terry.

I remember when I was autograph hunting when I was in my early ****s and found out Chelsea were travelling by train to play Forest so we waited at the station. I got loads of signatures and Terry Venables was brilliant with us and signed everything. I’ve still got the likes of Charlie Cook, Barry Bridges, Bobby Tambling and Peter Bonnetis autographs.

Always think of Euro 96 when I think of him, especially Gazza's goal v Scotland.

R.I.P Terry Venables, a truly great England football manager. Pity you left after the Euro 96 ⭐

Off topic and the complete opposite of the Terry Venables autograph story above - I remember as a young kid in 1960, when England played South Africa at Trent Bridge, standing outside the TBI waiting to get Freddie Trueman's autograph. When he came out he told me to F*** Off!

RIP Terry, my favourite England manager (that includes Sir Alf!). Sorry he didn't fit in and sorry he seems to have spent the last few years of his life unwell.
