    Stats aren't everything, however.................................

A few weeks ago I started to look at various stats relating to the way that we are playing and I was not surprised to see some of them, however, it certainly made me think when I studied things closer today after we have completed 15 games.

Burnley are in 9th position in the PL for the number of touches ----7169 which is more than Aston Villa who are currently 3rd in the PL and also Newcastle.
5191 touches are by the 7 players who have played in defence along with James Trafford, whose score is 916 which is 208 more than the next keeper in the PL list. In fact, James is 40th in the whole of the players in the PL when it comes to touches.

In spite of all the touches we have only registered 164 shots and we are 17th in that table with only Nottm Forest, Luton and Sheffield United having fewer.

We are also 19th in the table for tackling with 217 and only Manchester City are below us, mind you they have so much of the ball that they don't get many opportunities to tackle.

There are other stats that I could mention but suffice to say that, when your goalkeepr has such a large percentage (13%) of the touches it is no wonder that goals are hard to come by because you don't score goals in your own half.
Berge with 678 and Brownhill with 672 are our top midfielders.

It certainly gives food for thought and, as was witnessed on Tuesday night, if you don't score when you are on top it will come back to bite you time after time, think back to 2021/22!

When the GK has over 200 more touches than each of the "star" midfielders you are in trouble. It is not always bad policy to play the ball forward even at the risk of losing it.

Does it count as a touch when he pulls the ball out from the back of the net?

No. Anyway, it isn't always him that does that so perhaps our midfielders could ask if they would get more touches by doing that.
