    Football pet peeves

Don’t have to be serious. Probably better if they’re not…

Here are a couple of my pet peeves.

    1) This is more from a refereeing standpoint. Stupidly small shin pads (I was reminded of this watching Arsenal v Brighton).

Not fit for purpose. I understand many players prefer to train without them, but they’re there for a reason, especially in outdoor games where weather conditions and player control don’t combine well with aggressive attitudes. Youth players are now choosing postage stamp-sized versions to emulate their heroes. Doesn’t end well.

    2) Sticking with referees. Why can’t Premier League referees (in particular) wear different colours to the goalkeeper(s) in games? They have five different kits to choose from (again, motivated by watching Arsenal v Brighton: both the referees and the Arsenal keeper are in black). Lazy feckers.

    3) Why don’t Leeds have a playing left back (one for Hopey)?

Plenty of others, obviously. The more trivial and inconsequential the better.

The scum game vs lpool was really hard to watch. It’s as if the most boring games have the most VAR delays.

Arsenal / Brighton. Was almost as bad

I agree with your points. Especially shin guards

Players surrounding the referee and shouting at him.

The jaded platitudes some of the pundits come out with

Not hitting the target when in a clear scoring position

Oh and teams that play without proper left backs 😊

Co-commentators (who were rarely significant players in their own right) insisting on filling all the available airtime with blathering nonsense.

    Sometimes less is more.

(Except when it comes to left backs)

Just name them - Neville, that scouse twort for two - ex player who really surprises me though is Beckford; speaks well and not the drivel that the previously mentioned over paid w@@@@@s spout

Knee slides to the corner flag after scoring a thoroughly “meh!” goal.

Try doing that on most park pitches in February and not encountering a broken bottle or freshly squeezed Labrador turd.
