    Match ratings vs Donny

A lovely afternoon in front of the TV watching the mighty Notts cruise past a pretty poor Doncaster side...heres my take on events

Stone.. 7... Actually thought he was very good today, 1 or 2 hairy moments but done his job pretty well
Brindley..7.5.. very good today, always looked forward which is a surprise, good shift
Baldwin.. 8.. Excellent today, always available for a pass, put his foot in when needed, very good
Cameron.. 7.5.. Good game from the skipper, some good touches and always looked to go forward
Crowley... 9.. Unreal... how is he in league 2? Not a pass wasted, constantly thinking of how to hurt Donny, brilliant performance
Bostock..9... Wow... the Bostock of old, Donny never laying a glove on him, he was simply too good for them today
Austin.. 7.5.. A player I have questioned so much lately. Had a very tidy game in the engine room, delighted for the chap
Jones.. 8.5.. gutted about the pen as it was never a foul but he was instrumental in everything good in the first half, 11 assists so far speaks for itself
Nemane.. 7.5.. Bursts of what he can do, excellent for spells and won't score an easier goal, put in a great shift
Ditzy.. 9.. Outstanding performance, dropped back to iniate play so many times, some of his touches today were just pure quality, gutted he didn't get on the score sheet
Langstaff.. 9... Scored 1 and could of had 5... must be knackered after all the running today, the Macca we all know and love

    Subs
Rawlinson.. 6.. slotted in well, nothing too hairy to do
Tipton.. 6.. same as Rawlo, does look a tidy footballer
O'Brien.. 6.5.. Buzzed around and got his foot in, typical JOB performance, always good to see his enthusiasm
TAB.. 6.. Did well, always loves to go forward, hard couple of weeks for the guy so fair play to him
Sanderson.. 7.. Could we have a gem here? Looks like he has a bit about him, would like to see him het more minutes to see what he can do

LW.. 10..Simply for putting a smile back on my face
Crowd.. 10.. near 13 thousand is unbelievable...sang their hearts out, brilliant support once again 👏

Yeah pretty much agree although I’d argue it was a penalty.

Original ratings/comments spot-on for me - it’s great to see us back to more like ourselves in the past two games. LW deserves big credit for a fairly big game tactical tweak too, moving Langstaff deeper and pushing Austin further forward so we’re lining up in a kind of 3-1-5-1 system which very few (if any) other teams play but makes it almost impossible for teams to cope with us constantly interchanging positions en-masse in the forward areas. Also noticed us varying the corners more today which nearly led to a goal twice (one with a direct corner, one with the usual short routine) but again kept them guessing.

Without a number of good saves from their keeper it would’ve been a complete hammering today.

Stone - 7 - Got a bit of stick as usual but made a few good saves. One dicey moment with his feet but generally more good than bad today.

Brindley - 6.5 - Capable in all aspects and a bit more positive in possession of late.

Baldwin - 8 - Has been rock solid and looked way above this level the past two games. Recovery pace enables us to defend high and is a bit of a cheat code at getting us out of trouble.

Cameron - 7 - Solid defensively and threatening as an extra attacker going forward, unlucky not to score 1st half with a bullet header from a corner.

Bostock - 8 - Imperious, don’t think he misplaced a pass all game. Makes such a difference to the rest of the team when he’s on his game/fully fit.

Nemane - 7.5 - Back to his best, deserved his goal after repeatedly threatening without reward first half. Crossing/end product much better today too.

Crowley - 9* - Unbelievable. Feels increasingly confusing that we pick him up (in his mid 20s) from Morecambe as he clearly doesn’t belong at this level. Axis with Nemane down the right back to its best.

Langstaff - 7 - Different role enabled him to be more involved but still popped up with a typical Langstaff goal.

Austin - 7.5 - Superb work rate off the ball and showed some quality on it. Last 25 minutes at LWB showed his versatility once again.

Jones - 7.5 - Yet another excellent assist, from the first cross he was able to put in again against a decent RB who was doing a good job on him until that point. Impossible to keep him quiet for a full game with the quality he has.

McGoldrick - 9 - Looked like what he is, a player playing below his level. Great assists for the 2nd and 3rd and some fantastic skill throughout, one double turn and pass before he was substituted was a particular highlight. Played as the furthest forward but still popped up everywhere.

Subs - 7 - Game was done so hard to have a major impact but none of them did anything wrong. Usual intensity from Jim and Sanderson looks comfortably the most first-team ready of the youth players who’ve featured to-date.

Can’t argue with the above, JB seems to be dropping deeper and playing the MP very well.

I think it suits him. He's the kind of player who wants to be involved, and you could see his frustration in previous games when he became isolated and didn't see much of the ball. It didn't stop him popping up with a very good finish, and Didzy too seems happier, so the tactical change seems to be a good one.

This could cause L2 chaos! With Didzy coming deep as well, we're in a kind of 3-1-6-0, the kind of formation Spain won the World Cup with. They changed 2 CBs at half-time. Not having anyone obvious to mark, but different players coming from deep is probably a nightmare to your average L2 CB.

The fluidity in the team today was certainly impressive, and not just limited to Macca and Didzy. We're not at the "total football" stage yet, but you have to admire the sight of a League Two team appearing to aspire to it.
