    R.I.P Test Cricket

The South African Cricket Board have ordered their players to prioritise domestic T20 cricket over their tour to New Zealand. Result is a squad you would struggle to describe as even second best. Other countries have failed to send full strength teams on recent tours but for a board actually ordering players to put T20 first is another level of concern for the future of Test cricket. As more and more of these cash rich tournaments spring up around the world then the temptation for players is obvious but for the authorities to put T20 first!

Greed rules, I’m afraid, it’s all a quest for more money and to hell with what used to be known as ‘Sport’. Also far too many people with very short attention spans, instant results are what these fools want. As the song goes, ‘You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone’!

The South African cricket board are pretty stupid anyway, as I believe that they insist on a certain number of black players in the team regardless of ability. Did I hear the ‘R’ word……?

I cannot abide T20 ‘cricket’, nor the appalling Hundred. I met a bloke who claimed to love cricket, loves those two aforementioned formats but hates Test Cricket. He said that he wants to see a result within a few hours of play! The bloke has no idea about cricket and sadly, too many have a similar mindset. I doubt that there will be much Test Cricket played five years hence.

I read a report a couple of weeks ago which reckoned within the near future only India, Aus and England will be playing Test Cricket (extremely sad thingy.) It's understandable that players want to make as much as they can out the game but indefensible that a board can order their players to prioritise T20 (extremely angry thingy)

If I was NZ I tell SA to stay at home and play amongst themselves if that's their attitude.
