Not talking about Nelson by any chance are you ? It had gone to rat**** when I worked there and that's over 20 years since now. When we'd done with checking hydrants for the day we used to park the Fire Engine up in the town centre and play 'Spot the Normal Person'. Binoculars came in useful.

Sinks, I remember seeing you and Alfie played in the same team before, can I ask which team?

There were two John Lords, one I worked with at Nelson, the other was from Bacup way, to distinguish between them, we called him John Laard because of the Bacup accent. I never heard John Lord referred to as Sidewinder, John Laard might have been, it does ring a vague bell, but I don't know because I never actually worked with him and didn't know him that well.

I know Alfie from way back Dave when we both posted on the Longside. We also posted in the Longside Paddock, displaying our extensive knowledge of horse racing. We've never actually met but we were often called into the Steward's Room together when our activities met with the disapproval of the Chief Steward, who went under the name of ColinWaldron.

It would have been in Nelson around 1982. He was going out with my (widowed) sister-in-law. Came to stay when I was in the Bahamas. Nice guy but I lost contact with him when they split up.
