The National Football Museum is close to Victoria Station and the John Rylands Library on Deansgate used to be well worth a visit, but looking at their website the Wokerati seem to be running it now, so I'm not too sure anymore.
I’m taking my dad and one of his ManCity friends to see that game. We are quite strangers to Manchester really. We have mainly been going to home matches. And my dad moved from England in 1972 so Manchester has changed a bit since he knew it. Do you have any tips for us what to do, where to go before and after the match? Appreciate any advice.

Thanks for the response. I will look into it. Any thoughts on where to eat? How long before match start to get to the stadium? In Burnley we are there just before kickoff but if the atmosphere is good then I’d like to go earlier.
I'd always recommend a Spoons of which there are a few in Manc
There are two Nells Pizzas in Manchester, one just off Minshull St. near Piccadilly Station, the other on Edge St. in the Northern Quarter, best pizzas I've ever had, the Cheese and Onion Pie Pizza is to die for.
If you want something a bit more classy and pricey, Tast Catala on King St. just off Deansgate, is a Spanish restaurant/Tapas Bar, Pep was one of the investors who put the money up for it so that he could have some decent Spanish scram while living in the area. Mrs S won't go anywhere else when we're in Manchester.
It all depends on how long you will be in Manchester Will and what your budget is likely to be.
Sinkov mentions the National Football Museum which really is a must.
For pre-match beverages I would recommend a a walk down Tib Street in Piccadilly, 4 or 5 cracking bar/pub type establishments with decent "footy food" and good atmosphere.
Accommodation: Premier Inn, Manchester Central in a "Premier Plus" room.
St Peter's Square Tram stop virtually outside the door.
Saturday night dinner or Sunday lunch has to be Hawksmoor on Deansgate (recommend making an on-line reservation).
Trains are not operating well on Sundays because of industrial action and rubbish management. Jump on a tram to the airport it arrives and departs from Terminal 2 and takes around 40 minutes either way and is as cheap as chips.
Enjoy your trip!
Will I know the others have posted afterwards as well but I like San Carlo in Manchester it’s buzzing Italian - good food and you might get a few players popping in for tea as well ( need to book ).
In fact I’ve just decided I’ll taking a trip back there myself sometime soon - train from hebden bridge and an afternoon of fine wine and good steak.
