    Barnsley FC Womens' Team

It is good to see the club media now taking an interest in the Womens Team having a good season in the NE Premier League (5th tier) following a 2-0 win over bottom four club Hull.
A little balance is probably required in the recent piece suggesting the Women are on course for promotion.

    Just one team are promoted

    Sunderland P10 W9 D0 L1 Pts 27
    Barnsley P11 W8 D1 L2 Pts 25
    South Shields P8 W6 D2 L0 Pts 20
    Wallsend P8 W6 D1 L1 Pts 19

We perhaps need to wait until the games in hand are played first.

I fully expect an open top bus parade followed by a civic reception in the Town Hall attended by the town's dignitaries should the ladies win promotion .

Having played the bottom four in the 12 club league in recent fixtures it is now crunch time as Jess's Women as they play the other four of the top five in the next four games--

    Jan 28 South Shields H
    Feb 4th Spennymoor A
    Feb 11th Sunderland A
    Feb 18th Wallsend H

    A test of promotion credentials.

Well done to Jess's Women beating fellow promotion challengers and previously unbeaten South Shields 1-0 today.

Teams nearby in the table have games in hand but the Reds are still top

    Barnsley P13---Pts 31
    Sunderland P12---Pts 30
    Wallsend P11---Pts 28

The Oakwell Council Tenants may have to shell out money if they go up (one team promoted) as the 4th Tier is semi professional whereas no wages are payable in the present 5th Tier.

The structure of Women's Football in England is--

    First Tier--Women's Super League

    Second Tier--Women's Championship

Third Tier--Women's Premier North and Women's Premier South

Fourth Tier--regional Division One North, Division One Midlands, Division One South West and Division One South West. "Barnsley Womens Football Club", the team not linked to Oakwell are in this tier.

Fifth Tier--a number of sub regional leagues given the title "something Premier". "Barnsley FC", the team integrated into the Oakwell set up are in this tier in the North East Premier League

Nearly all leagues consist of twelve clubs with payments/ contracts beginning at Tier Four. It is interesting to note that our new Sporting Director is responsible for "heading up transfers and player contract offers across the Mens and Womens sides". The club must be anticipating promotion to the Fourth Tier next season.

Jess's Women go to Spennymoor today in a promotion battle.

    Good luck and "Go Well".

Games of football do not come bigger than this--

    Sunderland West End-v-Barnsley FC

2nd-v-1st in the North East Premier Division. Both teams locked on 31pts, Barnsley from 14 games, Sunderland from 13. Only one team is promoted from this league to the fourth tier.

    1st Barnsley P14 W10 D1 L3 GD23 Pts 31
    2nd Sunderland P13 W10 D1 L2 GD13 Pts 31
    3rd Wallsend P12 W9 D2 L1 GD16 Pts 29

Barnsley top on GD mainly due to the 10-1 spanking of whipping girls Harrogate. To add further spice to the mix Jess's Women are at home to Wallsend on Feb 18th.

A pivotal fortnight in the season. Only 22 games are played in the 12 club league so only six games will remain after Sunderland and Wallsend. By a quirk of the fixture list three of those six are return games against South Shields, Sunderland and Wallsend. It's a tough run in for the Women of Grove Street.

One game at a time--beginning with a hoped for victory at Sunderland on Sunday.

    Go Well Jess's Women !
