No win in the last 9 games meant Charlton had to win against Northampton Town for Michael Appleton to keep his job. That wasn't to be as the team again fell to another late defeat conceding a goal in the 97th minute. Consequently Michael Appleton was dismissed 30 minutes after the result which now leaves Jason Pearce and Curtis Fleming in interim charge.

Unfortunately the writing was on the wall for the former boss who started off reasonably if not unremarkably well but wasn't able to turn defensive frailties around and fashion a team that could win and win ugly if needed.

As for the game, Charlton came from behind on each occasion. Edun was sent off in the 88th minute but the sending off was nothing but harsh after a tackle from the Northampton defender.

Teams seem to know that Charlton have conceded so many goals in the dying moments of the game and this was no different. The new manager will have to find a way to build a robust defence and one that will see out games rather than losing them at the end.

Charlton goals: McGowan (og) 20, T.Watson 45+3

Northampton goals: Simpson 7, Hoskins 22, Appéré 90+7
