Thread: When did we last improve a striker?

  1. #21
Shankland got his first Scotland cap while with us and his first full season of regular football in the Premier. Should have got several million for him.
Unfortunately we became so ultra defensive that it ruined him and he had to position himself into the midfield more often than not to get involved.

Sums it up really well. We improved his profile. If Hearts Hibs or Sevco had bid £1m that's where he would have gone. They didn't.

But where are the new Russell's Goodwillie's and Fergusons.
What's Stevie Campbell doing these days, would he ever forgive?

To be fair, the title doesn't say it has to be one of ours. And, we seemed to nearly improve any teams striker when putting (sic) against the POP

No disrespect intended but anyone who thinks we improved Shankland knows very little about football.I have no time whatsoever for Hearts but for the sake of the national side its a great relief he plays for them rather than us.Its a terrible thing i'm saying but its true.

The national coach is similar to Southgate in that he is too loyal with several players ie Dykes and Adams to me Shankland is the more natural striker of the 3 but its not even certain he will make the squad.

100% agree with you about Shankland, far better than both.i don’t know what Clarke sees in Adams, he is barely mediocre and I think cant get in the Soton squad! Shankland will create out of nothing. Dykes has his uses but limited and if Nibett is firing then he and Shankland would be my front 2 of choice!

Nisbet btw just picked up an injury.
Dykes and Adams emerged when Scotland were struggling for strikers and before Shankland was ready to step up. Clarke is obsessed with loyalty to his players and that's why he's stuck with them.
But I agree Shankland is more than ready now and probably ahead of the others. Should be bedded in during the pre Euros friendlies and 100% should travel to Germany.
Strikes me though that players need to be very very careful what they say around Clarke and in the camp, hopefully that hasn't happened.
