    Keeper cover

    OS today:

Crewe Alexandra have signed keeper Keiren Westwood on a short-term deal.

The 39-year-old former Sheffield Wednesday and Coventry City man has joined the squad ahead of Saturday’s clash with Crawley Town.

Westwood, who has long been a regular part of the training group at Reaseheath, has also represented the likes of QPR, Sunderland and Carlisle in a career that has spanned 519 appearances.

He also earned 21 caps for Republic of Ireland.

Manager Lee Bell said: “Keiren is going to sign for an initial month and then we will take it from there.

“He’s a brilliant professional and has been around the club for three years. He came with us as part of the coaching team when Fred (Barber) was ill earlier in the season.

“He’s got great experience and he is a great influence. I’ve told him his job is to push Harvey (Davies), so he knows there is pressure on him and he has to perform.

“He has had plenty of offers in this league, higher above, and abroad. He’s never retired but he only wants to do things that are right for him and his family. We are delighted to have him.”

I only have the same old question..

How many coaches do we have at this club and how much are they all costing the club and then we can only sign other clubs academy players on loan..

All we had here, like most clubs was one manager for 100 years and not one coach on the books...How times change...for the better? or worse? It depends on your point of view..When the Salford centre forward scored three goals just now, not one of our five defenders or the GK jumped up off the ground to stop him....Some great coaching there hey!! The easiest hat trick he will ever have!!

Perhaps the coaches need coaching?? No, the best thing is to play the coaches in the team on a Sat and get rid of the players?

Of course it may be we cease to be a professional football club and become an academy club for kids...Something we have been practising for some years...Meanwhile it cost what? 27 quid a game to watch?

It was sad to see our GK injured last week but when you play a lad in goal that is not fully developed physically then that is exactly what happens and why most GK are mid twenties and above that age...For that very reason and maybe why they are told to stay in goal by the coaches...

Put it this way...There is no way that I would pay that sort of money to watch a football match whether that is PL or the National League..Perhaps that is why only the old uns post here who only pay half that?

On one point I think you are correct. Only older posters on here.

Really hope we can get another win, but more importantly come out of the game unscathed.

There seems to have been a definite 'shift' regarding rehabilitation - and making sure players are ready before being selected for First XI duties.

    3-1 win
