Must have missed it. Just that it popped up on my phone late last night hence my post.

I agree it’s a great airport and shouldn’t have closed.
Ryan Air want all the monopoly on air times but TUI have stood their ground that’s why RA won’t come across to Donny.

There’s talk of Jet2 moving in to lessen the burden on Leeds/Bradford. Should that happen then the revenue and customer foot flow should increase accordingly

Crazy that it's supposedly unviable given the length of runway, catchment area and infrastructure. East Midlands is okay, but Leeds Bradford is in the middle of windwept nowhere and Manchester an unpredicatable journey for us on this side of the Pennines. The south Yorkshire conurbation is the only population centre anywhere near its size in the UK without its own airport.

It’s not profitable because operating costs are so high which reflects on Flight Prices ! Personally I love going there but it will be a bigger drain on rate payers than Don Valley Stadium was ? They will get some operator in who will drain the purse and eventually fall back for Peel to finally sell it. Making even bigger profits!
Remember Ryanair have already been there once and pulled out !

and that's just Doncasters share, the contributions from other South Yorkshire Councils is yet to be decided

Why are operating costs there higher than, say, Leeds Bradford?

    Numerous factors

Basically down to desirability of the operators, where the airfield is, whether night flights are allowed, whether it’s a main hub ( or not) and whether or not there is excess capacity.

Basically Donny is midway between East Midlands and Leeds Bradford so no real advantage to being there as an operator. So it will only attract the fringe, smaller airlines

Just weeks before they announced it being u viable there was a good chance of having a new station built too.

Time will tell, but given the location, runway size and logistical advantages over Leeds Bradford inparticular, I think it has more to do with Peel's lack of motivation to make it work. Why would (for example) Liverpool have a viable airport given its proximity to Manchester, and Doncaster/Sheffield not? It makes no sense.

Robin hood is small beer compared to Liverpool and East Midlands

Jet2 and TUI might be struggling to fill the slots they have now let alone add services into other airports

Then there's freight services. East Midlands has night flight approval, Robin Hood would struggle to match that to attract the bigger freight companies like DHL

Whatever happens if Rotherham is forced into putting money into this money pit they should insist on a change of name away from the Sheffield_Doncaster title

Take your point, but if your pessimism is correct, does 'Rotherham' wants its name attached to another embarrassment?
