    Quite right Chalky. My Dad was a postie for a good few years and he was down the station picking up mail off the train at 6 a.m. then up to the PO to sort it in the back office then him and his mates off around the town and the villages in vans. They used to sell stamps too.

    That’s right griffy,when bdb was still pulling girls pigtails and playing conkers us real men was out there grafting earning a living,my mate also sells stamps,well used to anyhow

    I used to start at 5am in the Mcr Central Delivery office at Newton street. The walk has to be sorted first and not much point in going out much earlier as offices were closed. 2nd delivery was about 11am & overtime doing a 2nd walk sometimes round the more residential areas like Ancoats or Salford…

    My dad used to turn in at midnight to clean the vans, half an hour before he went to bed. And you tell kids that nowadays, they won’t believe you.

    Used to prefer the night shift.. 1 week in 4 as got paid more 😀
