Haven't bothered looking this up but from memory I'm pretty sure yellow and red cards were introduced so the crowd knew what was going on on the pitch.
With that in mind blue cards aren't the issue for me as I think it's the sin bins that need binning off. They're a s hit idea and will overcomplicate for the sake of overcomplication.
