The financial accounts of Aston Villa for the season 2022-23 revealed that the club lost
£119.6m - with the premier league Profit & Sustainability Rules [PSR] only allowing for
losses of £105m.
Be it Aston Villa have complied with PSR for the period 2019 to 2023, as they were not
charged with breaches, when Everton FC & Nottingham Forest were on the 15th January
2024.
Aston Villa have covered themselves with investments, in the women's team, academy
& charitable causes, that can be deducted from PSR total.
So Aston Villa will be able to sneak under the £105m threshold.
The clubs revenue has risen from £178.4m in 2021-22 to £217.7m in the 2022-23 season.
Uefa outlined the £119.6m 2022-23 loss by Aston Villa as the largest among teams
competing in Europe this season.
Aston Villa's wage bill of £194.2m was the 7th highest among the same group, up from
£137m the previous year.
Thoughts - So clubs can be over the PSR £105m limit, but investing into club teams,
academy & charitable causes, the club can deduct these costs off, to keep with-in
the PSR limit.
