    Football regulator

The next step is today in Parliament.
Can't be a bad thing but as yet a bit vague.
Nothing specifically mentioned about the evil of parachute payments that have left the game sterile and unfair to "smaller" clubs.
Not good news though for chancers who gamble on a club's future, and for foreign sportswashers putting their tanks on our lawn eg Newcastle United.
Premier League already squirming. Moaning about Government interference. Squirm on. We're coming for you

If you can't trust the Tory government to look after the masses, who can you trust...? The centimillionaires and billionaires must be getting through some anxiety meds today.

Well a change of government is highly likely but I can't see it being any different and we still end up with a toothless tiger

It's basically a load of blather with no real intent to change anything

No, nor can I. The only thing I actually expect is a bit of PR and some backdoor protection and support for the sort of scum running most football clubs.

Sadly, the only way to get meaningful change is for fans of all teams to collectively insist on it - but from the top of the PL to the top of non-league football, there are too many who are happy with their lot and don't see the bigger picture. It doesn't matter what the subject is, there will be a number of fans to defend, deflect or outright deny a problem.

What makes anyone think a football regulator would be any more effective or efficient than any of the other industry regulators that already exist?
Let's face it the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), Ofwat, Ofcom, Ofgem et al are hardly beacons of effectiveness are they?
Also what would they call a football regulator?
Offoot? Ofball? Neither are particularly appealing 😉

Like some of those you mention, the lack of meaningful bite would stem from complex ownership of those they're overseeing. The problems we have now don't come from a lack of governance, they come from a structure which isn't equitable, and a general apathy from the 'consumers'. As I said above, the lack of uniform agreement that the game is almost completely f***ed renders any incoming regulator as little more than a token gesture.

I don't blame the toerags running the game, nor the players who take so much out of it. The fans are to blame. As someone on here said about our club, which echoes completely about the wider game, fans get the sort of (club, or) game the deserve.

There are a couple of things which we should take encouragement from.
The creation of this independent football regulator is happening because of the uproar from fans over the ongoing ruination of the national sport. The Government has been forced to act.
Once mobilised, fans still have power. After all, they killed the European Superleague didn't they?

"On 21 December 2023, the European Court of Justice issued a ruling that a ban on the ESL would be contrary to European Union law."

    For now.
