If it had just been Chilwell having an off night we might have avoided defeat. However Maguire was again vulnerable and Dunk did not inspire greater confidence when he replaced him. What is also concerning is why Ben White who has been playing so well for Arsenal has made himself unavailable for selection. The suspicion might be that he does not trust Southgate to pick players on their current form or that he despairs of replacing one of Gareth’s favourites. Is that an unwarranted thought? It has happened in the past with players who were passed over. I think we will carry more goal threat when Kane and Saka are back in the team. This team has the talent to win Euro 2024 but do we believe in the critical moments they will fail again as they did against Croatia, Italy and France when the big prize was within their grasp?

The story I'm reading is that White got the hump with Steve Holland when he accused him of not being really interested in football. I would think Holland is right, White spends far too much time on his sunbed and looking into a mirror to have time to keep up to date with football. I wouldn't have the big Jessy near an England team.

Sky’s Sam Blitz said: “Chilwell was wasteful going forward, ballooning crosses and shots over the bar when found in good areas. And Brazil exploited his flank several times on the counter-attack. Correctly taken off for Gomez, who deserved a chance. If Luke Shaw doesn’t make the Euros after injury, this could be a problem position for Southgate.”

No problem if Tripps is fit, he'll just swop him over, the fact that his his left peg is only for standing on doesn't worry Gareth.
