    What’s wrong with stating the truth?

    Only issue I would have is you could add names like Joey Barton, Wayne Rooney, Anthony Gordon etc. to that list.

    I know nothing about the backgrounds of any of those players and don't know what other opportunities they might or might not have had if they hadn't been successful in football.

    To make sweeping assumptions such as those that have created the story was clumsy and insulting at best. Whether they were based on race is another issue, but it was a stupid thing to say.
