Newcastle 4 PSG 1
Says a lot for me. OK, they maybe underestimated us, and were caught by surprise.
But it showed what the team and manager were capable of.
I really don't think that will have been lost on the owners, who I'm sure are an awful lot more astute than Fat Ashley. I reckon they are well aware that this is a long haul, and that there will be ups and downs along the way.
With 9 games to go we are 5 points behind Man Utd. Not insuperable. We are ahead of Chelsea despite how much they've spent.
And this with a bizarrely huge list of injuries.
No need for drastic change, just gradual improvement.
Precisely Bill. Well summarised.
Progress is never linear. Those FIFA/FM games who take NUFC from tears to glory in straight seasons live in the gaming world. In reality we're competing against the Fraud 6 & the next 6 best teams in the country for the glory. The external variables to success, alone, are exponentially difficult to calculate.
Multiply those factors with our own internal issues, restrictions to investment (PSR etc), incumbent deadwood in the playing squad, additions of extra matches in Europe and the injuries have amounted to a greater and greater challenge. At no time has Eddie lost his cool or acted in anything other than a professional and dignified manner.
He's a class act and dealt with everything thrown at him, from Tonali to playing kids with aplomb.
Only snide external descenting voices would questions his position.
Before I read the rest of the posts.
NO!
We are still a project.
The injuries and the Tonali situation have impacted a squad not ready to attack 4 competitions massively!
Eddie has to take some blame..as there doesn't seem to be a plan B. We play our way well or not..he also didn't rotate early on when it was a possibility. Also BDB at LB for too long.
But having to play the same players, especially midfield including Lewis(who has been great) for so long takes its toll.
Having 2 strikers made of glass
Some really weird injuries that are not down to training or rotation.
The players are still fighting for Eddie, even if they don't play well or have enough gas.
Most teams that suddenly find themselves in the Champs League have a massive drop off the following season.
We need to stick with Howe. Let's see who we sign next season. How the squad is used. If we are progressing.
I believe the owners will have a similar outlook.
There were a few answers I could have just posted, "This"
😂
