    I thought John’s was a dreadful commentator.

“What a great little goal, what a wonderful little goal”……..fks sake, what’s that all about.

Then Star Soccer had the additional insult of Billy Wright waffling on afterwards.

    I also thought Wolstenholme was c r a p.

Brian Moore was just so smooth at commentary and never got ridiculously excited at the mike.

I also loved the radio commentary of Peter Jones during the 70’s and 80’s.

For me though, Richie Benaud was the best commentator of all time, he was the master of knowing when to shut up.

He often said that the periods of silence were often more important than the verbal description.

If you watch old cricket highlights like I often do, it’s quite amazing at how big the gaps often are in between him speaking, almost a whole over a times.

Sometimes just the single word…..”shot” or a quick, “bowled him” and that was enough.

He commentated how most fans think about a moment.

I've never had a Sky subscription, or BT/TNT. We might have one of those twig things somewhere though. At the neighbour's possibly......... 😉.
