I suspect the correct answer is Led Zeppelin.

For me personally it would be Queen, Yes and Mott the Hoople.

It depends what you by influential?

Influential to the general public or to yourself?

50,s…Elvis’s self titled debut album sold by the million and introduced rock n roll to the masses
60’s…Led Zeppelin would be in with a shout practically inventing rock in ‘69
70’s.. Nevermind the b@llocks,here’s the S@x Pistols was a flash of greatness that burnt out almost as quickly as ignited
80’s…Madonna’s first album can’t be ignored as it influenced millions of young girls to sing
90’s Definitely Msybe by Oasis kickstarted the Madchester scene which led to Britpop

Non of the above would be in my top five but I own all of them they are that good

The Beatles Please Please Me is average compared to the classics that they produced later as it consisted of many covers,if they was allowed to sing their own compositions on it then we would have had a different beast

As Wikipedia claims, heavy metal came from Zeppelin, Purple and Sabbath. Not quite on the mark but what came after was heavily influenced by them and I’d maybe add blues rockers like Ten Years After and early Tull/Mac.

But of course the correct answer is LED Zeppelin - LED Zeppelin 1

But surely Elvis influenced Led Zeppelin?

    Edit

Forget that as I think that Zep would probably be influenced by some blues artist

Judas Priest are often overlooked as one of the first heavy metal bands, but their debut album wasn't as influential as their subsequent output.
