Mr farke needs a goalkeeper, striker and playmaker for next season as we try again to reach the awful premiership.
Agreed as to the lack of any prospect against the "lower" PL teams, but the dropoff by some of those who I thought were possible PL-quality means the strengthening would need to be wider and deeper (in the increasingly unlikely event of us being promoted).

Don’t think I’ve ever seen him come for the ball from a corner kick to catch or punch, he doesn’t seem to command his area like the old fashioned keepers used to do.

Not sure that behaviour has died out, just that for whatever reason Meslier seems unable to use his height advantage and the "protection" afforded to keepers generally to take more control of the ball, especially when delivered from set pieces and corners.

Cardinal sin of goalkeeping - coming for the ball and not making it (or at least getting fouled)

I don’t think many of the younger ‘keepers have been coached to either come out or even actively catch high balls played into the box, which is a bit strange given that the modern game frowns upon almost any contact on them by the opposition.

Meslier is still young in goalkeeping years.

    He’s also 6ft6’’, without jumping.

While I’m thinking about it, I also don’t understand why goalkeepers are encouraged to punch when ball retention is the current coaching flavour of the month.

I’ve yet to see any goalkeeper successfully punch a ball out to a team mate’s feet with any precision whatsoever.

And why are they wearing short sleeved shirts (personal rant!)?
