That’s an inept a defence as you’ll ever see.

Furlong is marginally better than Townsend but then again it’s a case of absolute shyte and complete shyte 😭

You’d think Stoke had Iniesta and Xabi in midfield the way they carved open our defence.

I can’t understand how anyone that knows their football can’t see how dreadful we are at the back.

Those first half chances were courtesy of some of the squarest and flat footed defending you’ll ever see.

If we play any decent attacking side over two legs I don’t think we’re capable of giving up at least 4 goals and probably 5 or 6.

I think that both Furlong and Townsend are pretty decent going forward but whilst both can-and have-made timely interceptions and blocks neither are great in their defensive roles. To be fair Furlong shades Townsend in the latter but not by much.

It wasn't just our two full backs though yesterday as Yokuslu wasn't up to his normal standard again and both Bartley and Kipre, whilst generally solid, were also guilty of a few errors. Luckily Palmer was on form or the scoreline could have been a lot worse!

Andy Johnston's commentary was telling where he became increasingly exasperated about us allowing Stoke too much time and space particularly regarding Manhoef who was able to cut inside too often on his favoured foot when he could have been forced to the touchline. We may have one of the best defensive records in the Championship and when we are on it we do defend well but we are not consistent enough and I think we were lucky not to be punished more yesterday tbh.
