    The ref should award a corner. For a ball to be deemed in play from an indirect free kick (for offside) it has to be touched by another player. Because the goalkeeper in this instance did NOT touch the ball and it it rolled over the goal line that is deemed the back line, so a corner is awarded.

    Unless the referee is officiating at a Rotherham match.
    Then to give the opponent even chance of winning a home player must be sent off, even for pulling up his socks.
    A corner would be too lenient so a direct free kick is awarded and retaken enough times until the more established club scores a winner.
    The match must then be ended regardless of how many minutes have been played

    Hope that clears up EFL rule 58b (Roth). Affectionately known in refereeing circles as Howard,s Way

    After such an awful mistake, he needs demoting to the national league and sent for retraining.

    I’d recommend a sideways move perhaps into administration.
    Shouldn’t be let anywhere near a whistle and officialdom ever again.
