Clarets Mad - Clarets v Seagulls, English Premier League Match Preview.
Venue: Turf Moor, Harry Potts Way, Burnley, BB10 4BX.
Kick-off – 15.00 – 13th April 2024.

Despite points deductions for Everton and Nottingham Forest flying about like confetti at a bride’s Spring wedding Burnley look doomed for an immediate return to the Championship.

A lethal combination of a lack of managerial tactical nous, poor signings, and lamentable refereeing decisions, coupled to the non-existent authenticity of VAR will help to bring an end of the Claret’s season-long tenure in the English Premier League.

Vincent Kompany’s lamentable decision to continue playing out from the back despite opponents’ high speed press cost Burnley a share of the spoils at Goodison Park last Saturday.

This weekend’s visitors to Turf Moor managed by the highly rated Roberto De Zerbi will no doubt employ the same offensive tactics Sean Dyche utilized so effectively during the Toffees’ 1-0 victory over the hapless Clarets last Saturday.

The Seagulls arrive at Turf Moor on the back of last Saturday’s 3-0 thumping by title-challenging Arsenal at the AMEX Stadium and despite their current EPL standing of 10th place, still hold aspirations of another season of European football. It does not seem that long ago that Sean Dyche was fostering the same ambitions for the Clarets.

One’s to watch: The Seagulls seem to enjoy an almost endless stream of footballing talent jumping off a South American conveyor belt which has brought them a healthy financial balance sheet.

Debt ridden Burnley are the exact polar opposite, a reliance on low-cost Belgian imports who have proved to be inadequate for the physical and mental challenges of the English Premier League despite an outlay of almost £90 million pounds.

The Seagulls are likely to be without Evan Ferguson and Billy Gilmour, Vincent Kompany’s Burnley seem to be still unsure of their best starting 11 despite it being match week 33.

Verdict: Another home defeat looks on the cards for Burnley as Brighton seek another season of European football. The Clarets for all the world appear to be already relegated. 2-0 to the visitors is my prediction.

Footnote: Football is all about opinions and in my estimation just about the worse one in the EPL will take charge of Saturday’s match. The doom and gloom at Turf Moor looks set to continue.
Referee: Simon Hooper. Assistants: Adrian Holmes, Simon Long. Fourth official: Geoff Eltringham. VAR: Robert Jones. Assistant VAR: Derek Eaton.

Whatever the outcome of Saturday’s match, if you are attending - enjoy the game. (TEC).
