“I love gambling and always have,I know nothing about dogs or horses but football bets are my thing and had some good results over the years, bdb has witnessed a recent run that I went on and I’m sure that I’m well in profit even including the both sides to score that I do on here which is ideal because I ignore form and stick with the same four clubs”

    He’s a lucky old git… grant him that…
Never shares his slip before though but to be honest, Budweiser is going up in price EVERY time he loses to me 😇

Presumably the fourth one was called Coitus Interruptus.

I enjoyed reading the story about Little Polveir and I had a workmate years ago that used to bet Ona horse called Rambo Dancer,he loved that horse but I can’t remember it being a big winner for him

Talking of bets I’ve decided that I’m gonna have a final bet in the final week of football on both sides to score so if you fancy giving your thoughts I would welcome it,I shall remind you nearer the time
Your Reverend is probably just annoyed because he's had to change bookies after seeing you go in there.

I remember Rambo Dancer. He only ran for one season and was then retired to stud. He lived to the ripe old age of 20 but sadly died after covering a mare in South Africa. Not the worst way to go I suppose!

Like you I mainly bet on football nowadays, but usually "in running". My favourite bet (on the Betfair Exchange) is to back a team that had been expected to win, when they have gone a goal (or sometimes even two) down. I usually hold back on placing the bet until the 60th minute or more, when the team's odds have increased significantly. As a minimum I look for 5/1 for the draw and 20/1 for the win. My unit stake is never more than £1.

As well as the football I also bet on golf and horses. My stakes on all of these things nowadays are never more than a £1 unit and I limit my losses to a maximum of £100 in any one month. I reckon on average I lose about £50 a month which over the years adds up to quite a bit, but it keeps me out of other kinds of mischief and is significantly cheaper than some alternative pastimes such as joining a golf club or going to the pub every night.

I look forward to receiving your reminder regarding both teams to score in due course.

    Cheers Chalky.

I was a regular betting man on horses and dogs, I lived about 400 yards from Hove dog track. For a short time I worked in a casino and after I left I kept in touch with one of the managers. Went on a weeks holiday with the pub landlord and some of the regulars. On the Saturday we got back I had a phone call that 2 horses from a stable in Sus*** were a good thing. I cannot remember the exact prices but the double was just over 100/1. I won a grand and most of the pub were on so it was a great day in the pub. Only have a bet now on the Derby and GN but will wait until Saturday before looking at the runners.

I don't know how old you are Davee or how long ago the bet was. That's the kind of inside information we all need though!

There are still some quality trainers in Suss*x but, at the time I was betting regularly, Guy Harwood was the main man. He had some great horses (To Agori Mou and Dancing Brave spring to mind) and they often seemed to go off at decent odds.

The stable doesn't seem to have operated at the same level since his daughter Amanda (Perrett) took over, but she still pops up from time to time with some good priced winners. She seems to have a particular fondness for winning at Goodwood and I always look out for her runners there.

Preferably prior to the race, please let us know your selection for Saturday!

Only if I win! I don't have the faintest clue about horses and betting - come to think not good, in fact dreadful, at predictions full time.

Covering a mare,I’ve never heard it called that before 😄

I know someone else who does the same kind of bet as you howoldboy on the football (backing a fav when they are a goal or two down) and it’s suprising how often it pays off,I don’t do online betting though and just stick to cash so I know how much I’m gambling and if I win I will usually save the slips until I’m having a lean time to get some “free” bets and top up my wallet

My username gives you my age and the bet would have been in the late eighties. The trainer was Lady Herries, the wife of cricket legend Colin Cowdrey.

My selection for tomorrow was I am Maximus but that has been backed to favourite. May also look for another with a bigger price.
