He never seemed to be rushed into taking a chance, I suppose that’s down to his reading of the game and positional sense; a true ‘finisher’.

Yes, Mick, that lower tier does look empty!

Mr. Astle, Mr. Allen and Mr. Regis send their best along with a number of others. SKP was a cracking player who scored some belting goals for us but doesn't really compare.
The best ALL ROUND centre forward. Please listen.

I don't have to listen to you Boingy, I can read ta. And while SKP was very very good for us I just don't agree with you 😊.

Don’t agree but ask yourself how many delicate chips or overhead kicks was Astle capable of? Or Regis? They were both legends for this club but mainly for their power. All round ability isn’t something everyone has. Is all.

I think length of service is a big part of any players status as a "club legend" alongside their qualities as a footballer. Obviously Astle and Regis, for example, were with us much longer than SKP who had just 2 seasons with us I believe.

On another note, maybe if he had played for Arsenal / Spurs/ Chelsea/ Man Utd / Liverpool rather than Sunderland, Southampton and, later, 3 Midlands clubs he may have had more international caps?

Phillips was good but not a patch on Astle or Regis in my eyes by a country mile!

Boingy. I've got no more control over what you post than you have over how I respond. With that in mind it's a (largely) free world on here at least.

If you want to undermine your credibility by posting cr@p feel free to do so. In the meantime if you post cr@p I'll feel free to point it out. The End 😉 .

I loved Phillips but he did everything at the second level for us mate, the real legends did it at top level for us.

There’s certainly an argument for Phillip’s career at Sunderland to be considered perhaps.

I put him ahead of Bob Taylor in ability and quality and don’t rate Bob alongside Allen, Kevan or Regis.

Absolutely. So I’ll just extend my free will to treat your inane remarks with the attention they deserve. 👍
