Anybody see the game against Santos when Pele played? Me and my Dad went down to the game and I remember a huge queue to get in. A copper came up to my Dad and told us not to bother waiting as there was no way we would get in. Dad bought me a Villa badge and we went home :blue:

Nice one AV, thanks for that. Wonder what the gate was that night?

Just under 55,000 paying customers and a few more is my guess.

Only three floodlights though, because of the three day week Villa had to buy a generator.

We won 2-1 but we did have Bruce Rioch and Ray Grayden in the team!

Found this picture of Pele at Villa Park with Eric Woodward.

Some years back someone posted some colour pictures of that famous night, would be good to see them again.

Attendance that night was 54,437

Thanks for the footage I'd never seen that.

It was so cramped in the Witton end there was no way of seeing the goals do in.

I recall the header toward goal, but never knew it was headed again!!!

One correction. There was only two floodlights. In the first half they lit the Witton end and in the second the Holte end.

The Brazilian keeper complained bitterly to the ref about the lights in his eyes twice, but to no avail.

Definately 100% 3 floodlights, that was all the generator could power.

At half time someone switched the 2 floodlights lit on the Holte to 2 floodlights lit on the Witton. Santos said this was unfair as they would be defending the dark end twice and refused to come out unless it was switched back!!

And a young Ray Graydon scored a penalty.

Does anyone remember the Brazilian guys free kick that ended in the back of our net?

Never made the Santos match, cant remember why.

BB, didnt Steve Hunt play for New York Cosmos in the 70's ? Think Pele was still kicking a ball around in the mid to late 70's in the U.S.
