Why, when Carroll was known to be injured after the final game of LAST season, a striker in waiting had not been identified to sign on the dotted line as soon as the latest window opened.

We all know that the actual signing couldn't happen until Jan 1 but has no one at the club heard of pre contract agreements?

F_uck me even I thought when the Bagel Brothers took over we'd at least be run on a professional basis.

As i wrote on another thread..."Our manager signed our 'saviour' (who was injured at the time)after a full medical by our doctors. Therefore the doctors were very very wrong in their advice or their advice was completely ignored by the manager.

Our Manager has to shoulder the full blame imo."

That is how the club has been run since the "***uel Entrepreneurs" took over and employed Fat Sam.

A crying shame that this has happened to the Club.

to be fair W, you were asking this more than anyone, fair play

What puzzles me is how the medical department got it so wrong?

I mean these are Sam's guys who follow him from job to job, he may not be Pep Guardiola but BFS's sports science department is supposed to be second to none. Seriously, these medics are the top people from the best university's around Europe.

I find it unfathomable that such fine doctors & specialists wouldn't have flagged up some concerns. . . . . . . . . . .my theory is that Sam was warned but pushed the deal through anyway.

Unfortunately the owners have pretty much made this manager omnipotent, with a director of football in place this transfer would never have happened.

totally agree with the op...

there appears to be no desperation, or any realisation that we have a very real problem on our hands.

we should have had some signings before the fireworks had finished...

"When we signed him we were assured by the medical staff that the very, very latest he would be back was September 1. That would have meant he would only miss two league games."

There you go , So now I guess we only have our medical staff to blame really...

Not that it makes any difference now , it's happened , he's been out for this long but hopefully now the problem is sorted and he can just get back to playing again. - view external link (http://www.insideworldsoccer.com/2013/12/west-ham-david-sullivan-regrets-signing-andy-carroll.html)

The cupboard wasn't bare... Sam had Maiga and Vaz Te available, two forwards who, with the right support from central midfield, could have seen us through.

His failure to develop a passing midfield has been the problem...He hadn't recognised the lack of creativity in the middle during the previous season. That is the area that needed strengthening..my heart ached watching Scott Parker scything through our midfield on Wednesday.

Ever present Nolan and to an extent Diame have rarely provided a cultured pass.

Too late to sack Sam now...we must hope for the sick notes to return, so that the hoofing can be more productive.

Totally agree Whiskey. We have had 3 months to line someone up to walk through the door on Jan 1st. It has been blatantly obvious to every football follower of every team what we lack.

Utterly clueless.

Mike. Vaz Te isn't good enough to play up front in the Championship unless it is a wideman in a front 3. Maiga was that bad we played 4-6-0 for a number of games. He has got better I will admit.

Our midfield problems stem from not having a holding midfielder.

'developing the passing midfield'

'allardyce'

you are not trying to connect these in the same sentence mike, surely?

it's not what he does mate, sorry to sound like a broken record

Vaz Te and Maiga ARE good enough if the ball is being passed around...the mistake was in fitting them into the Direct system.

Put this in perspective... Poor old Uncle Avram started a season with just Cole and Nouble...The above mentioned two aren't bad back ups. The Daves were right to expect Sam to manage the situation...he hasn't been up to it.

What I find astonishing is what bad business management this is? We can all blame Allardyce and the players but Gold, Sullivan and Brady appear to have taken their eye completely off the ball considering it is part of a very public 7 year plan that will transform the club into a state of the art stadium. The clubs stock is even lower than when they first took the us down in 2011. I'm sure Mr Levy is pissing himself with laughter.

We could debate whether Maiga and Vaz Te are good enough all day long. Vaz Te is not and never has been a premier league striker. Wide man at a push.

Maiga scored goals in France, Chamakh scored more. Totally unproven in the premier league.

However what I will agree on is that neither is a target lump for dinosaur football.

Sorry , but anything that comes out of that mans mouth i will take as a lie.
And even if i am wrong, thousands of us cant be, the thousands that knew it was stupid to even contemplate signing an injury prone player, and even more so when at the time of his permanent signing he was injured.

So he was either a fool or a liar. i know what option ill pick. And now, as has been stated previously, we are scrambling around for a replacement. I think he was pinning all on the fact we wouldnt be where we are now.
