Buc, did you get my message re assertiveness. You gave no acknowledgement. I was genuinely trying to help.

As for thatcher, you chaps have no idea about economics which i can forgive you for. I wouldnt expect a hamster to understand addition either.

All your concerned with is your own welfare, not the bigger picture. An effective leader does the best for EVERYONE, not just the north.

Bizarre misunderstanding of how politics works in a functioning democracy.

tyrants and dictators might claim to do what's in everyone's interest (whatever that is), but leaders in democracies act in the interests of the people who give them their vote once in power.

that's the purpose of a democracy.

that you've missed this suggests you really haven't been paying attention.

Bloody nora Frank, will you please, please pack it in with your pseudo-intellectualism? It's abundantly clear to anyone with wits in excess of those possessed by your average hobnob biscuit that you're thicker than a whale omelette. You'd be better off joining in with all the banter on here. It's what those of us with a bit of brainpower do when we're not enjoying a touch of partial differentiation or contemplating the works of Proust.

What do you do for a living Frank? What lofty position in society has your superior intellect propelled you to? Are you a QC? Possibly a brain surgeon? Maybe you're involved in the Higgs Boson research at CERN?

I bet you'll tell me you're self-employed. It's what all self-professed geniuses say. Really clever and really skint. Bravo Frank's brain. Tons of gob**** and **** all cash. Congrats.

Lets keep it simple cpw. If a business isnt making money, eg coal steel, what do you do? Pour in more money? No, especially if its yours. Taxpayers money doesnt count does it?

As long as the miners keep getting paid to mine coal we cant sell, then they get gold plated retirement nest eggs, then theres infrastructure to maintain etc etc.

Youd have to be MAD to keep that going, or a left wing nutter.

As for your university of Nottinham education you are fairly right. Labour foul up everytime, then the Conservatives save the country. Thats not being partial is it. If Osbourne wanted browney points hed do what Balls up wants.

Conservatives are partial but less so by a country mile. Please GROW UP.
Wherever socialism has got a grip it has failed. I dont know why im arguing the point, im wasting my time.

Supawooly, great post, you could call me a brain surgeon, without knives. x

anyone with half a brain knows that what thatcher did had nothing to do with cold, hard economics and everything to do with breaking the mining unions. it was deeply divisive and very political.

my original point addressed your fundamental misunderstanding of how politics work, not the merits of thatcher's policy.

your response is so simple-minded it's hard to know here to start. as for not pouring tax payers money into loss making industries, if that were the case, half the banks would have hit the wall five years ago.

get a clue.

The miners brought down Heath and she was determined to smash them for that. What ****ing economics, we had to import German coal which cost more than producing our own after the pit closures. Thatcher's economic policies brought us the greatest economic contraction since Edward the second, we slipped to 9th in the world in GDP from fourth.
