Quite simply, should we break our budget for a young fella with bags of potential, who can score goals ?.
Or should it be a case of, we like him, love to have him...but we will not break our budget to get him.
Is it worth a gamble or not?.

If we sign him at any cost, it could be key to getting us promoted to the Championship.
Either way at the end of the season we may look back and reflect on the fact that if we had signed Dicko and broke the bank, we would probably have been promoted, the other side of the coin is,to look back at the end of the season and be glad we broke the bank for him as without him we would not have been promoted!.
Stick or Twist ???.

Would love to have him but will never forget what happened last time we lived beyond our means. Personally think its too soon for us to go up before the other stadium developments are complete to generate more income. Rotherham people won't pay Championship prices in sufficient numbers when we are losing more than winning so I do worry about that.

Might be old fashioned but build patiently and within budget but enjoy it along the way-as we are doing right now. If we can get him within budget without upsetting rest of players then all well and good.

Beware the ghost of Mark Druce! 5 goals in 6 on loan, none in 28 after we signed him!

(But that wouldn't happen with Dicko... would it).

Difference being he was signed by a manager, worse than Andy Scott (yes - really!) - Danny Bergara, destroyed us in 2/3's of a season - which made RM's time here look even more of a miracle.

How Druce scored 5 goals in 6 is myth & legend.

Comparing Druce to Dicko is like comparing a plastic to a real fan ;)

I"d never "break the bank" for any player!!

And its not just strikers we need...defence is a worry.

After 2 administrations there is no way I want this club to run at a debt. I don't want us to go into debt to "speculate to accumulate". Like previously posted, I think we would be better as a club either missing out in the play-offs or not going up this season. We will get by on an average of 8k to 9k attendances. In the championship we would struggle, and let's face it - 5,000 of our fans are new to to this losing lark and may stay away. We would obviously get more money from the FA and away support receipts but wages would be much higher too.

In short - if we pay a man 9k a week to kick a bag of wind round a field then the season tickets prices are too high.

At 21, IF he is a success and keeps scoring, there will be a good sell on value when he is 25/26. If we can get him relatively cheap and sell him for ?1m+ in 4 years it would be a good investment. Speculate to accumulate and all that

Firstly, I don't buy into this 'too soon to go up' point of view for a second, this could be the best chance we have of going straight up on the back of last years momentum and success.

Plenty of clubs have had decent seasons, just missed out and then struggled at the wrong end of the table for a few years afterwards.

Secondly, should we break the bank? Nobody on here knows enough about the clubs business to suggest what the right answer is. All you can do is trust Tony to make a sensible decision and if Nouha comes back to us I'm sure we'll all be delighted.

Perspective please !!! Club Turnover is the one thing that will determine how many players we are able to sign under the rules (see link below)

So lets start with the commercial side of things here at NYS, hardly any adverts on the website to make up the numbers upstairs with the prawn sandwich brigade like there was last season, so commercially the wining and dining side of things must be generating more revenue than last season.

Crowds are up from last season, and healthy away followings (Wolves/Blades) as well make for more revenue also.

The club have to as the season goes along release figures to the FL if they want to sign more players so they fit into the structure of the rules, so if we have had a good christmas revenue wise and they release these figures to the FL before signing a player then yes we can afford whoever we want within the limits stated.

Nicky Maynard linked with a move to Wigan this morning so possibly means Dicko will be heading out again.

Nicky Maynard linked with a move to Wigan this morning so posibly means Dicko will be heading out again.

That would be a good signing for Wigan. Maynard's good at Football League level. He is similar to Dicko, but more proven, so they will probably opt to sell Dicko if they sign Maynard.
