Hull City set 7.5m transfer record as Nikica Jelavic signs three-and-a-half-year deal.


ASSEM Allam has hailed the arrival of Nikica Jelavic as Hull City "biggest ever signing" ahead of announcing a club-record 7.5m deal for the Everton striker today.

The Tigers' owner has now taken his spending on the club way past the 80m mark, having brought the 28-year-old to the KC Stadium on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

But after backing manager Steve Bruce in the transfer window, Allam believes his investment in the tenth-placed Tigers is well worth it.

He said: "The club is moving forward. We are paying a lot of money for first-class players."

Jelavic joined Everton in a 5.5m deal from Rangers in January 2012 and made an immediate impression, scoring 11 goals in 16 games before the end of the season.

City are believed to have paid 6.5m to take him to the KC, with another 1m dependant on avoiding the drop.

Must admit, I didn't think we'd get that much for him.

Two sales by Martinez/Kenwright so far have squeezed out every penny.
