Hello all. A bit of a vague question here for you. A Wolves fan claimed the other day that around 300 of you came to see the Walsall game with Northampton on Saturday 12th March 1977. I see from the results that day that Wolves were away at Luton so I think he may have got the date and Saddlers oppenents mixed up, maybe. However do any of you recall Wolves fans coming in numbers like that to Fellows Park around that time? It would be nice to get to the bottom of it. Cheers.

I used to visit Fellows park on a regular basis when the Wolves were away and I am pretty sure I wasn't the only one either. It was not an uncommon thing for the local supporters to do in those days, crossover for the day. I used to watch the Blues quite often also.

Can't recall the particulat incident the referred to though mate.

In 1973 Birmingham away was called off and a train load of Wolves went to Shrewsbury and played up, but I cannot recall this event, loads went to Luton and it was dog rough, all coach windows were broken. Luckily I drove, well it was until I broke down on the M1 !
I too have been to a match at bescot when the Wolves weren't playing,(Gillingham- and we sat with their fans)also went to S****horpe v Walsall to get Glanford Park, to get the ground in, as I never expec

Thanks for the replies so far folks. Hopefully someone out there will know just why. It seems so bizzare that 300 should turn up. When I was doing the 92 towards the end I joined the Wolves and Villa travel clubs to gain access to get to awkward grounds that Id have no chance of going to with Saddlers. With Wolves I did Newcastle, Ipswich and Middlesbro and with Villa i did Norwich, Southampton.

From what I was told, it was an abandoned match between the Wolves and Albion at the Hawthorns, around 300 wolves fans were escorted from Walsall train station to Fellows park to the game, the confusion is the date as my mate said it was vs Northampton, but you were away to Luton that day.

Sounds a bit like a myth to me, no Black country derby has been abandoned in my time watching Wolves. (a couple I wish had been , mind you ;D )

Re the date involved here. I took an interest as,like Duds, I was at the Luton game (and yes the windows on our bus were put out and we were stuck at the God-forsaken place for hours after the game!). The date was actually March 5th. Wolves lost 2-0 and Walsall lost 3-0 at home to Northampton.

Yes it is true.

I cannot remember the date but it was around 1977 and it was a Wolves-WBA game that was postponed, I thought it was at Molineux though.

Walsall were playing at home (v who I cannot remember), but the Walsall game was actually on TV and you could see and hear the 200-300 Wolves fans who went.
