Bolton central defender David Wheater is back in full training following his knee injury.

The 26-year-old has not played since September because of the problem but a return to the first-team squad could be imminent.

Boss Dougie Freedman is particularly short of options in that area and admits he had to be patient when it came to Wheater, who appeared seven times during Wanderers' disappointing start to the campaign.

"David Wheater will be back with us on Monday," he said.

"David Wheater's knee problem was never really solved. The physical condition couldn't handle the workload that was required to play week-in, week-out; hence at the beginning of the season he was playing a game and then not training. I couldn't have that.

"He's been for the last six weeks with the sports science department, 24 hours a day nearly, working.

"Monday morning he will be back, fully fit and in contention."
