When insulting the scotch, what does the trick for me is being generally demeaning, referring to them as chookters and sweaties, and pointing out that all scotch achievements are figments of their imaginations, e.g., it was really an American that invented the TV (true), kilts were first worn by the Irish (true), and that Billy Connolly is not funny (true).

He did, but that was so long ago it might as well never have happened.

The Irish invented the bagpipes, as well. Not that anyone would categorize that as an achievement.
