I agree with Roy Hodgson, there are far better English central defenders than Terry.

Curtis Davis has been head and shoulders superior to Terry this season for a start. If Davis played for Chelsea and Terry played for Hull - davis would be picked for the England squad without question.

It's typical really, you get defensive disaster areas like Chris Smalling and Phil Jones picked - just because they play for Manchester United. If they played for Cardiff, Stoke or Hull - they'd be rightly laughed out of town.

Chelsea have the best defence in the Premier League however that is because Mourinho dumped Ashley Cole for the more defensive Azpilicueta. Terry's weakness lack of pace is thus not exposed. Previous coaches axed Terry instead of Cole for this reason.

I'll be amazed if Cahill/Jagielka aren't the England central defence this summer if fit. Phil Jones and Chris Smalling will struggle to be on the plane if their form and ability this season are judged rather than their red shirts.

The reason Chelsea's defence has been so tight this season is due to the fact they play with three defensively minded midfield players giving the central defenders protection.
