A truly humble and gentle man who had as much class off the pitch as those old enough to see him play say he had on it.

I'm sure PNE will pay respects in the appropriate way, but I'd hope the FA marks his passing at all grounds., and at the very least all local rivals pay their respects

RIP Sir Tom from a claret

in Preston this weekend for a family event - very saddened to hear of Tom's death

Bill Shankly considered Tom to be the best player that England ever had - says it all really. Saw him a few years back near my in laws quietly walking his dog - a true gent I was told

Way before my time, but by all accounts one of the greatest English players. A gentleman from a bygone era, the likes of which we are unlikely to see again. Sad news for football, his family and PNE. RIP Sir Tom from a Burnley fan.

From a BWFC fan

My Dad played centre forward for Lancashire Youth and Tom Finney was one of the wingers - said he could "cross a ball onto a sixpence"

Loftouse, Finney, Matthews - that generation, and gentlemen of it's type, will never been seen again.

RIP

R.I.P TOM FINNEY
The last of the "names" my Dad used to talk about with pride.
When talking about Football my dear old Dad always used to hark back to the days of Finney, Lawton, Wright, Matthews, Mortenson, Lofthouse and the Robledo Brothers.
All of them in that great Stadium in the sky now...God Bless them all.

"To dictate the pace and course of a game, a player has to be blessed with awesome qualities. Those who have accomplished it on a regular basis can be counted on the fingers of one hand – Pele, Maradona, Best, Di Stefano, and Tom Finney." (Stanley Matthews)

R.I.P Sir Tom.

A sad day for you in Preston, but in truth a sad day for the whole of football with the passing of a true great.

I was once at a function at Deepdale, back in the 1980s, at which he was present. To add to his football, I found out that day he was a true gentleman.

Our own Jimmy McIlroy told me that he was the best player he ever played against. That's good enough for me.

I'm a West Brom fan but would like to pay this tribute.

My dad loved Stanley Mathews but assured me that Sir Tom was by far the better player.

My dad,a Leeds fan who introduced me to Albion ( luckily! ) as a 10 year old also said that Willie Johnston was the only winger of "Modern times" fit to lace Sir Tom's boot's!

Based on those wise word's from the best judge of a footballer i ever knew and considering that for me "Wee Willie" is my all time hero,i bow in tribute to the finest winger this country has EVER produced.

RIP Sir Tom,a brilliant footballer and an equally fine man by all accounts,we shall not see his like again.

Condolonces to everyone at PNE and Sir Tom's family from us "Baggies" fan's.

Although I can't remember I must have seen him play a couple of times in the late fifties. He was one of the "Gigarette Card" greats. Another chunk of my boyhood past gone. The Langoliers are really putting a shift in just lately .:blue:

People talk a lot of bl(ks both in real life and on the radio about a whole gamut of subjects.

I often hear fans tell Collywobble he is a legend on the talkshoot phone in.

He is not.

Even though we in our family are Albion, my dad had nothing but praise for Tom Finney.

As has been said, star, club man and absolute legend of the game.

R.I.P. Sir Tom..

My Uncle was a Wolves fan in the 50s but many of his stories he told me were about the legends that visited Molineux..and there wsnt another player featured more than Sir Tom..the stories were told with a tear in his eye which showed the regard he held Sir Tom.. a great loss to the football world but what memories he left for those lucky enough to see him play..
