Although I can't remember I must have seen him play a couple of times in the late fifties. He was one of the "Gigarette Card" greats. Another chunk of my boyhood past gone. The Langoliers are really putting a shift in just lately .:blue:

RIP Tom.

Another absolute legend and a gentleman to boot.

Over the years I've read about, and seen archive footage, of such legendary players as Tom Finney, Bert Williams and Billy Wright to but a few and apart from their achievements and status as players they all have one other thing in common, honesty and decency.

There are very few such players in the game today at the highest levels although I'm sure there are, and I'm sure there are plenty of humble and honest players fighting to make careers out of the sport lower down the leagues. However, in the top two divisions there are a number of serial abusers, cheaters, and basic pond life who are hugely overpaid and who I see or hear about on a weekly basis. Fine individuals like Suarez, Bellamy, Charlie Adam, Flores and Barton plus a few dozen more that at this time of night I can't think of. So called sportsmen that aren't fit to lace the boots of legends such as Tom Finney.

Rest in Peace Tom, there's a hell of a team waiting for yo

Good to see all the PNE players having the "Finney" on the back of their shirts yesterday in tribute to Sir Tom Finney.

Wonderful player but I have to admit I didn't like him at the time as he kept our Jimmy Mullen out of the England team for quite sometime. But he was great to watch.
